yet pledges 'best tools' for HTML5 Adobe decries Apple's 'walled garden,'
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Multimedia, Services, Software on May 5, 2010
Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch says Flash works just fine on the Apple iPhone, thank you very much — and he thinks that's exactly why Apple keeps on denying it access. Speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, he explained his belief that by eliminating Flash, Cupertino is forcing developers to build apps natively for iPhone OS rather than one of Adobe's cross-platform solutions, and thus creating a “walled garden” of applications that users must flock to an iDevice to be able to use. Lyn……
coming in June, Roku teases revamped Netflix Channel user interface on video
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Services, Software on May 5, 2010
With the introduction of Netflix on so many devices, it's now up to everyone to battle it out for supremacy in user interfaces. We were actually duly impressed with the implementation on Nintendo's Wii, and it seems that the pressure has convinced Roku to retool their own UI. A new teaser has been released today by the company showing off the new Netflix Channel, and while the overall look and feel is certainly slick, it's a few key additions that have us most excited. According to ……

New Search Results Layout, Google Facelift Adds Updated Logo
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Services on May 5, 2010
Simplicity and navigability reign supreme on Google, but the site has recently introduced a new format to select users. Google is now incrementally implementing those changes to its search results page, and the New York Times grabbed some screen shots of the updated system. While the new scheme may initially appear needlessly confusing and busy, the upgrades definitely include a few awesome, highly desirable features.
At first glance, the new layout definitely appears similar to Facebook's left-side……
details finally start to flow, LG Ally gets its own website
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Mobile phones, Multimedia, Services on May 5, 2010
LG's Ally recently got its stamp of approval from LG, but outside of a terse acknowledgment that the phone was real (and had a thing for iron-clad superheroes), little else was divulged. Today, we've stumbled upon the phone's dedicated product page over at the company's website, which not only plugs Iron Man 2 to the nth degree, but also informs us that it'll ship with a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a backside camera and a microSD card slot. ……

April 5th Casual Calm Facelift Slated for Wikipedia
Posted by thumpad.com in General, New Media, Services on March 29, 2010
When established and enormously popular Web sites implement aesthetic changes or programming upgrades, devoted followers inevitably voice their disapproval. Amid constant progression and technical evolution, though, such redesigns are absolutely necessary for services to remain relevant and user-friendly. It won't be news to 500,000 lucky beta previewers, but Wikipedia, one of the Web's most revolutionary and prominent sites, is currently unrolling a series of significant changes that will modif……
Example of Flex 3 and ColdFusion 9 ORM
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Multimedia, Software on March 6, 2010
One of the more cooler new features in ColdFusion 9 is the addition of the open source Hibernate framework. This provides ORM (Object Relational Mapping) support to ColdFusion, greatly adding a good dose of RAD to an already RAD platform…. Read more.

on the Web Chefs Cooking Up Controversy
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Multimedia, Services on February 22, 2010
According to The New York Times, some New York City chefs are using Twitter as more than just a marketing tool. Angry chefs are feuding with one another, striking back against bloggers and food critics, and even venting about the rigors of their job. It's a surprising trend, as the restaurant community is known for being tight-lipped.
Joe Dobias, owner and chef at JoeDoe in the East Village, might be the most notorious culinary tweeter. Not only did he bash his fish supplier on Twitter (which told ……
Google Tweaks Buzz Again, Amid Privacy Concerns
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Multimedia on February 16, 2010
Google Buzz may still be in its infancy, but it already has one obvious leg up on its competition: speed of evolution. Facebook may seem to have an endless line of facelifts, but its response to user criticism is slow at best. Twitter, on the other hand, has been slow to roll out new features and tweak the interface, often announcing changes months in advance. Meanwhile, Buzz has been out for less than a week, and Google is already making its second round of changes to the service's default behavior ……
to the 2010 Nominees on Twitter. The Oscar Enthusiast's Guide
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Services on February 16, 2010
Groundhog's Day is over (with, apparently, more winter on its way), and let's face it, there's not a whole lot to be excited about in February. Except for the bloated, yearly spectacle called the Academy Awards. While Hollywood pats itself on the back, offices around the country throw in cash and take their best shots at guessing who will carry home a golden statue.
We won't attempt to make any picks, as we're saving those for our office Oscar pool. But, like every other Oscar nut……
a White House Twitterer, Obama Looking to Hire
Posted by thumpad.com in General, Multimedia, Services, Social Networking on February 16, 2010
Balancing two wars, steep unemployment rates, and an expansive healthcare overhaul doesn't leave Barack Obama a whole lot of time for anything — including, apparently, Twitter. This may explain why the President is reportedly looking to hire an official White House twitterer, according to the Wall Street Journal. Mia Cambronero currently holds the vaunted position of social networks manager for the Democratic National Committee, but said in an e-mail that she'll soon be vacating her “infamous rol……
